 Dr. C. Lynn Hurst was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the middle of 3 children, to Reverend Chester Clive Hurst, Jr. and Dorothy Mae Owens Hurst. Dr. Hurst graduated from A.C. Jones High School (Beeville, Texas), in 1975 and Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas), in 1979, with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) major degree in Biology and minor degree in Chemistry and was a research assistant for 1 year at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In 1984, Dr. Hurst received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with Honors (Omicron Kappa Upsilon) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School. In 1986, Dr. Hurst simultaneously earned his Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Dentistry and Master of Science (MS) degree in Orthodontics from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Graduate College.

Upon Completion of his education in 1986, Dr. Hurst entered private practice in San Antonio, Texas, where he founded Hurst Orthodontics and practiced orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics for 20 years. After one year in practice, in 1987, he joined the faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School and has been involved in orthodontic education and research, since then.

In 1993, Dr. Hurst completed Phase III of board certification in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, achieving the status of Diplomate, American Board of Orthodontics (Board Certified Orthodontist). In 2003, was one of only 30 orthodontist to be recertified, as a Diplomate.  From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Hurst served as Program Director and Clinical Associate Professor of the newly established Orthodontic Residency Program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, Department of Orthodontics; an innovative three-year postdoctoral program founded and designed to train dentists to become orthodontists and orthodontic educators.

Dr. Hurst was a Fellow in the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute Class of 2004-2005, a year-long fellowship to develop the nation’s promising individuals at academic dental institutions to become future leaders in dental and higher education. Upon completion of the Fellowship Dr. Hurst accepted a full time academic appointment as Associate Professor, Associate Dean for Advanced Education and Program Director for the Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Residency Program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, School of Dental Medicine, an innovative postdoctoral public/private partnership.

In 2007, Dr. Hurst accepted the position as Professor and Founding Dean for the College of Dental Medicine at Roseman University of Health Sciences. In 2008, the College of Dental Medicine began the inaugural postdoctoral dental program, Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics/Master of Business Administration Residency Program, an innovative and first postdoctoral dental program to combine dental specialty training with an MBA degree. In 2011, the College of Dental Medicine launched the predoctoral dental program, initiated under Dr. Hurst’s leadership.

In 2009, Dr. Hurst returned to Texas in order to be closer to his family and founded Texas Orthodontics.

Dr. Hurst’s early research interest was in biomaterials. Currently his interest is in practice based research networks and clinical trials and he has several peer reviewed publications. Dr. Hurst is a member of numerous professional organizations: Omicron Kappa Upsilon (National Dental Honor Society),  American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, San Antonio District Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, Texas Association of Orthodontists, American Board of Orthodontics and College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. In 2010, Dr. Hurst was honored to be inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.

In his spare time, Dr. Hurst enjoys automobiles, football, movies, off-road motorcycling, pilot training, swimming, traveling, water skiing, working out and spending time with his family and friends.
